This free non-sectarian dental clinic has been part of the Jewish Family Service since 1920. This unique service is one of only two such free clinics affiliated with a JFS in the United States. Eligibility is determined by an agency screening and application process.
Eligible patients must reside in Lackawanna County for a minimum of six (6) months. Care includes complete dental examination, x-rays, prophylaxis, restorations and extractions. Specialized services such as endodontics, periodontal and oral surgery are offered in specialists’ offices.
Residents of Lackawanna County are eligible for the service if they are financially unable to afford dental care and are not eligible for public welfare benefits. The majority of patients receiving clinic services has at least one family member employed or is on unemployment compensation. Many are supported by Social Security or Social Security Disability benefits.
The dentists are members of the Scranton District Dental Society who generously volunteer their services for those individuals approved for clinic services.
