Our services have been making a difference in Northeastern Pennsylvania for over 95 years.
Highlights of 2010/2011 included:
- Attained the highest national standards of professional performance as required by the Council on Accreditation for Children and Family Services valid through December 2013
- The Mae S. Gelb Kosher Food Pantry continued to help provide food and other necessary household items, with 88 pantry visits from the unemployed and those living on a limited income
- Emergency financial aid granted to help subsidize rent, pay heating bills and other utilities and provide food for individuals and families in crisis
- A collaborative effort between JFS and the Scranton District Dental Society provided over $57,464.00 worth of free dental care for eligible Lackawanna County residents who are uninsured
- Facilitated bi-monthly Reminiscing Group to seniors attending the lunch program at the Jewish Resource Center of the Poconos in downtown Stroudsburg
- Granted regional Holocaust Survivors $16,348 in financial assistance with monies received from the Conference on Jewish Material Claims Against Germany Emergency Assistance Program
- Licensed Social Workers counseled 291 families, couples and individuals to help strengthen and improve their quality of life
- Partnered with Catherine McAuley Center Trainsitional Housing Programs to provide monthly support groups for previously homeless single women and mothers in need of support and assistance in becoming self-reliant
- Dedicated volunteers delivered an average of 380 Kosher Meals on Wheels monthly to frail and homebound elderly
- Provided case management for 56 Older Adults in Lackawanna, Luzerne, Pike, Monroe and Wayne counties to maximize their independence, health and safety
- Facilitated ongoing staff support group for Hospice of the Sacred Heart to help employees express their emotions in a safe, non-judgmental environment
- Passover holiday assistance helped provide traditional Passover foods to over 128 adults and 158 children in our community
